The Card Code Verification (CCV) is a 3 or 4 digit code embossed or printed on debit and credit cards. Visa and MasterCard cards show the CCV printed on the reverse side. American Express cards show the CCV printed to the upper right of the imprinted card number on the front of the card.
Why Is This Necessary?
This tells us and our processing bank that you have your credit card physically with you at the time of purchase, and this helps to prevent credit card fraud. The number appears only on the card itself (not on receipts or statements), so it provides some assurance that the card is in the possession of the actual buyer.
