Assistance with your hosting account

This page is designed to give basic information about setting up your connection to the server and get your domain-based e-mail up and running.

As always, if you have any dramas with any aspect of your hosting account, please contact us via our website or telephone/skype us - our contact details are listed at the bottom of every page of this site.

NB: This page contains a lot oftechnical information which may concern or confuse the uninitiated! For those of you who have asked Show The World to look after all of your hosting set-up, you may only be interested in setting up your e-mail configurations. Click here to see these instructions...

Domain Name Redelegation:

Once you have registered with Show The World Hosting, you may need to redelegate any existing domains to point to the Show The World server. To do this you will need your domain name registration information and gain access to the Domain Name Server details within your domain name setup.

Change the Domain Name Server entries in your domain management interface to the nameservers provided when we set up your hosting account (refer to the e-mail we sent you at the time).

Once you have changed these settings, don't forget that it may take up to 72 hours for the global DNS registries to cycle and get your domain name pointing correctly at our server. If, after this time, you still haven't had any luck getting it linked, please contact us. During this period of DNS cycling, you can still upload to your web space using your server's IP address - See the details regarding FTP below.

Passwords:

Your username and password were forwarded to you by e-mail when you received your confirmation of registration with Show The World. It is advisable to change your password when you first receive it. You can do this in the CPanel of your account, simply by clicking on the "Change Password" icon in your cPanel.

FTP settings:

To upload your files to the Show The World server, you can use one of two File Transfer Protocol (FTP) settings:

  • ftp.yourdomain.com.au (so if your domain was www.joeys-pizzas.com.au, you would enter ftp.joeyspizzas.com.au)
  • or simply enter the IP address that was issued to you by Show The World (For example: 64.92.209.153)

Your username and password for FTP authentication are the same as those forwarded to you by e-mail when you received your confirmation of hosting registration with Show The World.

NB: You must upload into the directory public_html (or the directory www) if you wish people to have public access to your files (i.e. for people to be able to look at your website pages). If you do not do this, your site will not be publicly accessible.

Control Panel:

To access your control panel (to set up your e-mail accounts, subdomains, password-protected directories and other preferences), use either of the following:

  • or your IP address followed by "/cpanel/" (For example: 64.92.209.153/cpanel/ )

Your username and password are the same as your account username and password.

From within the CPanel, you can:

  • configure all mail accounts, including autoresponders, redirection, aliases, and mailing lists
  • change your hosting account password
  • request additional FTP accounts (for accounts with multiple FTPaccounts)
  • manage your file permissions
  • customise your error pages
  • view your web statistics and error logs
  • get CGI-scripts settings
  • and much more!

Setting up your e-mail applications:

Each Show The World hosting account has its own e-mail facility associated with the domain name of the account, so you can send e-mails from yourname@yourdomain.com.au.

The settings to enter into your e-mail application (i.e. Outlook Express, Outlook, Eudora etc.) are as follows:

E-mail Client Set-Up:

Setting

Value

Type of Account

POP3

E-mail Address

yourname@yourdomain.com.au

User ID

yourname@yourdomain.com.au

Password

The one you created in the cPanel

POP Server

mail.yourdomain.com.au

Outgoing SMTP mail server

mail.yourdomain.com.au

NB: If your ISP blocks Port 25 (the usual outgoing mail port), you can try using an Outgoing SMTP mail server of mail.your_isp.com(or whatever the Outgoing SMTP mail server details have been provided by your ISP - ie mail.bigpond.com, mail.ozemail.com.au, mail.optusnet.com.au etc).

Webmail

Your hosting account has webmail activated by default, and as long as you remember your e-mail address and e-mail password, you can access your e-mail from anywhere that you have an internet connection.

To access webmail, go to http://www.yourdomain.com.au:2095, enter your e-mail address and e-mail password, then select from one of the three webmail applications we currently have installed.
